Award Winnipeg Bluegrass band, Grasstowne, tours with KEL mics
August 2008
Grasstowne, winners of the 2008 SPBGMA Album of the Year, are now on the road with KEL HM-1s and HM-2Ds.
Grasstowne formed in December 2006 with the coming together of three very well respected veterans in bluegrass and acoustic music. Phil Leadbetter and Steve Gulley have known each other since the mid-1970s when they performed in local bands in the Knoxville, TN area while in their teens. It was during this time, through their friendship, that their paths crossed with mandolin ace Alan Bibey and Grasstowne was born. Touring since February 2007 the band also includes young bassist Jamey Booher and fast rising banjoist Jason Davis. The band's first album, The Road Heading Home quickly raced to the top of the bluegrass charts staying at number 1 for over 2 months.
"One day I noticed that Steve Gulley (vocals and guitar) had ordered an HM-1 and HM-2D for his personal studio," says Kelly Dueck of KEL Audio. "I thought, cool, one of the best singers in bluegrass is a customer. Then the next day, Phil Leadbetter (Dobro and vocals) ordered an HM-1!"
Dueck immediately called Leadbetter to talk about mic selection for his Gibson Phil Leadbetter signature model Dobro and the rest is history.
Grasstowne originally heard about KEL mics through FOH engineer, Darrell Puett. Leadbetter reports that Pruett will occasionally pull an HM-1 out of his pocket and joke that the mic sounds good even when it's not plugged in.
KEL Audio is thrilled to be associated with a band as skilled and exciting as Grasstowne.

Award-winning bluegrass and roots band, the Dixie Bee-Liners, joins the KEL family
March 2009
The Roots Music Association 2008 Artist of the Year, The Dixie Bee-Liners, are now touring and recording with KEL microphones. Buddy Woodward says about KEL mics, We LOVE the way KEL microphones are voiced. In a world of sizzly Asian knock-offs, and generic large condensers, you've really hit on something strange, wonderful and unique. KEL microphones have become part of our sound, and we never play anywhere without 'em!
With their ground-breaking album, RIPE, that has achieved four #1's to date, PINECASTLE recording artists THE DIXIE BEE-LINERS are creating quite a buzz. Known for their high-octane harmonies and stunningly beautiful original songs, the band has appeared live on BBC Radio Scotland, NPR, the Food Network, and radio playlists across the country and world-wide, including regular rotation on Sirius and XM satellite radio. RIPE, topped the Bluegrass Now Fan's Choice Top 20 chart twice, and also achieved two simultaneous #1's on Bluegrass Music Profiles' Top 20 Hot Singles and the Roots Music Report Bluegrass Chart. The Bee-Liners spent nine consecutive weeks atop the RMR Bluegrass chart and two consecutive months in the Top Ten of both Bluegrass Unlimited charts.
Produced by Grammy-winner BIL VORNDICK (Alison Krauss, Ralph Stanley, Bob Dylan, Jim Lauderdale, James Taylor), RIPE was released on PINECASTLE RECORDS in the spring of 2008. The album includes guest appearances from DBL alumnus Andy Falco (Infamous Stringdusters), Mark Fain and Andy Leftwich (Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder), ex-Grascal David Talbot, and dobro player Travis Toy from Rascal Flatts.
In February they entered the studio with VornDick again to begin work on a new album for 2009.
We at KEL Audio are honored to be able to help support this fine band as they tour through 2009, and beyond!
Rising bluegrass star, Sierra Hull, performs with KEL mics
November 2008
Rounder recording artist, Sierra Hull, is now using the KEL HM-1, HM-2D and HM-7U microphones in performance with her band, Highway 111. Sierra has gained a lot of attention in bluegrass and acoustic music over the last number of years for her stunning technical artistry on the mandolin matched with her sweet voice. She has also grown into a brilliant and her new album, Secrets, garnering accolades from many quarters.
Mandolin legend, Sam Bush, says about Sierra ..."With Secrets, Sierra Hull takes charge and leads the band with full authority. Her vocals are effortless and straight to the point, while keeping the focus on melody. Her mandolin playing is smooth, in time, and downright slippery. It's amazing to listen to her precision and agility, and the potential for musical growth is tremendous. I can't wait to hear what Sierra comes up with next. Every so often, a talent comes along that makes us sit up and take notice. That time is now for Sierra Hull."
We couldn't agree more and we at KEL Audio are delighted to support Sierra as she tours through 2009

Phenomenal multi-instrumentalist, Justin Moses, picks through KEL mics!
August 2009
Justin Moses, is the latest bluegrass and roots music artist to join the KEL family and we are delighted that he is now capturing his tones through a variety of KEL mics.
Justin currently performs with The Dan Tyminski Band playing fiddle & dobro and singing harmony vocals. He has been playing music since the age of six and is also an accomplished instrumentalist on mandolin, guitar, banjo, and bass.
He began playing with his family's gospel group in churches soon after learning his first chords on the mandolin. As a teen he entered regional contests, winning several on multiple instruments. Just before graduating high school he joined the band Kentucky Wind that included Tim Tipton and Keith Garrett and in 2000, the three formed Blue Moon Rising.
After three successful years he left BMR and became a founding member of the band Sierra Hull & Highway 111, performing at several festivals and events with Sierra in 2005. He performed with bands Blue Moon Rising and NewFound Road in 2006 & 2007 and gained valuable experience through numerous recording sessions with various artists.
Justin released a solo instrumental CD 'Dusty Roads' in 2006 which received many favorable reviews and significant radio airplay. He made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2008, and has become an in-demand session player, appearing on such albums as the Grammy nominated "Wheels" by Dan Tyminski and "Same Old Place" by NewFound Road among many others.
We at KEL Audio are proud to support Justin as he continues to amaze audiences and listeners with his playing.

KEL welcomes Gold Heart to the fold
November 2009
KEL Audio is delighted to announce that quickly rising bluegrass band, Gold Heart, has joined the the family of KEL mic artists.
Gold Heart features the jaw-dropping talents of the three Gold sisters. Their unique "slow drive" sound is unmistakable and helps deliver the full impact of their chill-inducing harmonies.
The band features Analise on mandolin, Jocelyn on guitar and Shelby on fiddle, with each sister contributing vocals that together creates a velvety smooth sound that is much bigger than the sum of its parts. Their own Dad, Trent Gold, holds the band steady on bass, while Russ Carson tears it up on the 5 - string banjo.
The Gold's first Rural Rhythm Records project, "My Sisters and Me" was released on August 25, 2009. Produced by Justin Carbone, of Special Consensus fame, the album includes 9 tracks penned or co-written by middle sister Jocelyn who, judging by the fine material on "My Sisters and Me" has an incredibly bright future as a writer.
Gold Heart is a tight group that will leave a positive impression on you from the first note to the last. They sound remarkably polished and confident for such a young band and their future in bluegrass is secure. We at KEL are honoured that Gold Heart has chosen to tour with KEL microphones and we look forward to assisting them further as they move forward in this incredible music.
